About Me

My photo
Hi, I'm Shae. I've just recently started studying PR and so far I think it's fun. I don't have a lot of time for TV there days so don't ask me about current shows. I spend my free time with friends out sampling what I consider Australian culture. I think people should read more and tweet less. I have had about 50 different hairstyles in my lifetime. I think that there is always time in the day to talk to your friends. And I believe that life isn't short, you have longer to do it than anything else, so take your time to enjoy it.

A New Start Part One

Welcome to Lease Equity Shae Thompson.

Lease Equity is a Real Estate agency that specialises in commercial real estate with shipping centres. As a part of this they have a marketing department for not only their company but also the shopping centres which they lease.

One shopping Centre that is in need of a revamp is Waterford Plaza. Located conveniently close to Central University and numerous surrounding businesses Waterford Plaza is in the process of some changes. As a part of these changes marketing would like to take advantage of it's location by bringing in more students. This will be the main focus of my work at Lease Equity. I will be working closely with the great Cathy Dalton. Cathy does the marking for this and many other shopping centres that I will hopefully be able to help out with where I can.

On my first day at Lease Equity I was introduced to the company and given a run through of what goes on there. This included going down to Waterford Plaza and getting an idea of the shopping centre. We went for a drive through the surrounding area to see what is there and who our demographic is. Given it's proximity to Curtin University Cathy has suggested to use Social Media as a large component of the promotion for this shopping centre. Setting it up and running it will be my job. Cathy and I spent some time discussing what we can do with social media for promote the centre and have come up with a few good ideas. She will need to talk to the shopping centre managers to discuss what they would like to do. We also spoke to a couple of the store owners to see how their shops are performing and what promotions they are running.

All in all my day was an excellent introduction to Lease Equity and I look forward to working with Cathy.

The end of a very short era

After only 3 short work experience days at Impact Communications my life seems to have taken a slight change of direction that meant that day 4 at Impact would be my last.

One thing that work experience at Impact has shown me is that we really do use the knowledge that we gain at school in the real world. My last day at Impact was full of things that I remember from Cert IV. My day started with a warm greeting from everyone in the office, including Oscar, and moved to assisting in updating the project records from the past year. This was followed by creating an action list for a new event that Impact is beginning, both were broken up by creating a few last additions to the invitation list to an event, all while updating any rsvp's for the event. In all, this day felt a little more like I was doing the work of someone who organises events.

This was to be my last day at Impact Communications so I said my goodbyes to everyone so that I can move on to do other things. I will be working for Lease Equity on the newly acquired shopping centre, Waterford Plaza. I will have the privilege of assisting Cathy in setting up the social network for this shopping centre, and making it more attractive for the local students and residents.

The wonderful thing that I found with this is that I really enjoyed being at Impact Communications and found the people there great and easy to get along with. When I left it was on very good terms with an agreement to cross paths again in the future and help each other out when needed. Meesha was happy for me to do whatever would be in my best interest and said that if I ever need a reference or it doesn't pan out with my current work experience that I will be welcome. By having left on good terms I have given myself the opportunities I need while keeping more contacts for the future. You never know when I might need to call Impact up for an event or some advise with an event, and who knows, once I'm doing this for real maybe they'll be calling me up.
